Modesto & the Central Valley

A cleaner space starts with a good local resource.

Sometimes the right next step is a hauling quote. Sometimes it is a city collection program or a conversation with a donation center. Use these independent local resources to find the route that fits your items, your location and your time.

Local resource 01

Start with your city or county

Your waste-service account and location can determine which collection options are available. Modesto residents can start with the city’s bulky-item page. For projects in San Joaquin County, the county’s material directory helps identify the right recycling or disposal questions.

Confirm eligibility, accepted items, appointments and current instructions directly with the provider before placing items out or making a trip. A service offered in one community may have different rules a few miles away.

Local resource 02

Give reusable items a real destination

Affordable Transfer takes usable furniture, household goods, clothing, appliances and other items in good condition to thrift stores or reuse organizations whenever practical. Appropriate recyclable materials, including metal, are separated for recycling. Items that cannot reasonably be reused, donated or recycled go to an approved disposal or transfer facility. The route depends on the material, its condition and the receiving location’s requirements.

Before deciding that furniture or home materials are ready for disposal, check whether a recipient can use them. Habitat’s official directory lists the Merced/Stanislaus affiliate and its local ReStores. Contact the store with photographs, dimensions and a candid description of condition.

Arrange acceptance and timing before transport. Affordable Transfer has no exclusive or formal charity partnership. These are independent organizations, and a resource link does not indicate a partnership. Any donation receipt, acceptance decision or pickup arrangement comes from the receiving organization.

Local resource 03

Find the right route for a mattress

Replacing a mattress is a good time to ask the new retailer about take-back. If you need a separate collection option, use the official Bye Bye Mattress locator and review the details for your selected site. Modesto also publishes a local mattress-facility page.

Describe the mattress, foundation and other bed components separately. Ask about quantity, access and preparation before moving them. A collection-site listing does not include a promise of transport from your home.

Local resource 04

Pause on chemicals and other special materials

If a cleanout uncovers paint, chemicals, batteries or unfamiliar containers, get material-specific guidance before adding them to a general removal pile. Stanislaus County provides a household hazardous-waste program; San Joaquin County provides its own disposal directory. Business-origin materials can require a different arrangement from household material.

Use the official source to confirm the correct destination and handling instructions. Ask us about unusual items before booking; the appropriate handling route may be one of the specialist programs listed here.

Local resource 05

Follow official community cleanup notices

The City of Modesto publishes information about its Mo’Beautiful disposal events and how residents can find future notices. Check the city’s current listing for dates, eligibility and accepted materials before planning to attend.

We link to the city as a useful community resource. Affordable Transfer is not presented as the organizer, sponsor or a partner of these events. For a private neighborhood or property cleanup, contact our team with the location, expected items and requested date to discuss a separate hauling quote.

Need help putting the plan together?

Bring us the practical details: what needs to go, what you want to keep, the job location and your preferred timing. If you have already arranged a donation or separate disposal route, mention that too so the hauling scope stays clear.

For a photo estimate, show the whole pile or area and add extra angles for larger jobs. Include stairs, gates and the carrying route, and describe material hidden behind or beneath what is visible. Affordable Transfer reviews the details and approves the final price; larger, heavy or difficult-access jobs may need an in-person estimate.

Call or text Affordable Transfer at (209) 353-2514, Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–8 p.m., or send an online quote request. We can review a pickup or cleanout and confirm the next step. Each community resource provider remains the authority for its current services, acceptance rules and availability.

Resources checked October 19, 2026. Listings are informational and do not imply a partnership or endorsement. Check each provider’s current rules before making arrangements.
